About Archip - Architectural Institute in Prague
The Architectural Institute in Prague (ARCHIP), established in 2010, is a private international school offering comprehensive architectural education in the heart of the Czech Republic. It stands out as the only institution in Central Europe to provide both Bachelor's and Master's degree programs in architecture entirely in English. ARCHIP emphasizes a blend of global and local architectural traditions, focusing on conceptual and technical training within a dynamic, studio-based learning environment.
ARCHIP's academic approach centers on a "Vertical Studio" model, where students from different years collaborate on a single site and program, fostering diverse perspectives and teamwork. The curriculum, fully accredited by the Czech Ministry of Education and adhering to EU and Bologna protocols, includes Architectural Design Studio, fine arts, computer graphics, humanities, technical subjects, and professional practice. The teaching staff comprises acclaimed professionals from both the Czech Republic and abroad, ensuring a well-rounded and practically oriented education. Students are encouraged to explore sustainable design and contemporary practices, preparing them for the challenges of modern architecture.
ARCHIP cultivates a truly international environment, with students representing over 30 nationalities. The institution maintains a strict limit of 30 students per class, fostering a familial atmosphere and close interaction with tutors, including regular one-on-one consultations for Master's students. Support services for international students include orientation programs to aid in acclimation to Prague and ARCHIP, as well as counseling services for academic and personal matters. The entire curriculum for both Bachelor's and Master's programs is taught in English, making it highly accessible for non-Czech speakers. ARCHIP also participates in the Erasmus+ program, facilitating international exchanges for students.
ARCHIP is currently located within the CIEE building in the historic Vyšehrad fort in Prague 2, an area known for its history, parks, and scenic views. This location offers students easy access to the city center via tram, immersing them in Prague's rich architectural heritage and vibrant cultural life. Prague itself is a lively, safe, and affordable metropolis with a significant expatriate community, providing an exciting backdrop for student life. The campus features design studios, a professional reference library, and exhibition spaces, and benefits from its proximity to the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art, encouraging interdisciplinary artistic exploration.
ARCHIP aims to produce universally educated graduates well-prepared for various career paths in architecture, urban planning, and construction management. The institution emphasizes practical training, with studio leaders being active practicing professionals who expose students to real-world architectural challenges. ARCHIP collaborates with municipalities, architectural firms, NGOs, and developers globally, providing students with practical experience and valuable industry connections. Graduates are equipped with a broad foundation of knowledge and transferable skills, enhancing their desirability in the job market and preparing them for roles such as architectural designer, project manager, and urban designer.
