About University of Incarnate Word

The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) is a private Catholic university in San Antonio, Texas, founded in 1881 by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word. It is the largest Catholic university in Texas and emphasizes intellectual growth, spiritual development, and personal responsibility. UIW offers a comprehensive educational experience with a focus on community service and a supportive learning environment.

Academics

UIW offers over 150 undergraduate majors, minors, and concentrations, alongside more than 20 graduate and doctoral programs across its eleven schools and colleges. Notable faculties include the H-E-B School of Business Administration, Ila Faye Miller School of Nursing and Health Professions, and the Feik School of Pharmacy, which recently ranked first in Texas for NAPLEX pass rates. The university encourages a multidisciplinary approach, with programs like the Master of Arts in Multidisciplinary Studies allowing students to customize their degrees by integrating courses from up to three academic disciplines. UIW also offers online programs for professionals both in the US and abroad.

International Students

The Office of International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) provides extensive support to international students, including F-1 and J-1 immigration advising, cultural adjustment support, and an international mentoring program. While some sources indicate a low percentage of international students, UIW actively hosts on and off-campus events for international students and scholars to foster cultural integration within the UIW and San Antonio communities. The university represents over 70 countries, and competitive scholarships are available for undergraduate international students.

Campus & Location

UIW's main campus is a 154-acre site in San Antonio, Texas, featuring a blend of historic architecture and modern facilities. The campus is home to the historic Brackenridge Villa and the headwaters of the San Antonio River, offering a picturesque and park-like atmosphere. San Antonio itself is a vibrant city with numerous attractions, including the Riverwalk, The Alamo, Tower of the Americas, and various museums and cultural sites, providing ample opportunities for exploration and engagement. The university also has satellite campuses and a European Study Center.

Career Outcomes

Graduates from UIW demonstrate diverse earning potentials, with those in Registered Nursing and Human Resources Management often achieving higher median earnings. The Office of Career Services assists students and alumni with career goals, offering resources for internships, job searches, and graduate school preparation.
