International Students


The Office of International Programs (OIP) at UMaine provides a variety of support services for international students, including assistance with visa requirements, academic enrollment, employment, and cultural adjustment. The Intensive English Institute (IEI) offers English language instruction for all levels, and an English Bridge Program is available for conditionally admitted students. UMaine hosts approximately 600 international students from over 80 countries, with significant representation from China, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, and India. The University of Maine's 600-acre campus is located in Orono, a town situated along the Stillwater and Penobscot Rivers. Orono offers a charming downtown area with shops and restaurants, and is just 9 miles from Bangor, a larger commercial hub.
