About Institute of Technology 2739
The Research Institute of Technology 2739, more commonly known as the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI), is the nonprofit applied research division of the Georgia Institute of Technology. Established in 1934, GTRI has a long history of applying science and engineering to solve complex problems for government and industry globally. With nearly 3,000 employees, GTRI conducts over $940 million in problem-solving research annually.
GTRI is deeply integrated with the Georgia Institute of Technology, an R1 top research university. GTRI's researchers collaborate with all seven Georgia Tech colleges and eleven interdisciplinary research institutes, fostering a multidisciplinary approach to problem-solving. Key research areas include complex and agile systems engineering, sensor design and integration, information management and cybersecurity, and defense technology development. GTRI also contributes to academic programs, including a Professional Master's Degree in Applied Systems Engineering developed jointly with the Georgia Tech College of Engineering.
While GTRI is primarily a research organization, its affiliation with Georgia Tech means international students at Georgia Tech benefit from a range of support services. Georgia Tech's Office of International Education provides assistance with visa applications and offers orientation programs for new international students. English proficiency is a requirement, typically demonstrated by TOEFL or IELTS scores. Atlanta itself is a diverse city, and Georgia Tech offers numerous student organizations, including those focused on specific cultural or academic interests, facilitating cultural integration.
GTRI is headquartered on the Georgia Tech campus in Midtown Atlanta, Georgia, with additional laboratories and over 20 field offices nationwide. Atlanta is a major metropolitan area and a hub for technology and innovation, offering a vibrant city life. The Georgia Tech campus is a 400-acre, tree-lined environment with various amenities and is within walking distance of attractions like Centennial Olympic Park and Piedmont Park. The city also boasts a comprehensive transportation system.
GTRI's strong ties to government and industry clients, particularly in national defense, homeland security, and economic development, provide significant career opportunities. Researchers are encouraged to publish their work and present at conferences, enhancing their professional profiles.
