Fırat University

Fırat University, located in Elazığ, Turkey, is a public research institution established in 1975. Named after the Euphrates River, it is a significant academic center in Eastern Turkey, known for its emphasis on scientific and technological development and research. Academics

Fırat University comprises twelve faculties, four institutes, one conservatory, and three vocational schools, alongside twenty-one research centers. The university is recognized for its strong focus on engineering and technology. It offers interdisciplinary graduate programs through its Institutes of Natural Sciences and Social Sciences, covering areas like Forensic Information Engineering, Biotechnology, Ecoinformatics, Aviation Science and Technologies, and Disaster and Crisis Management. The Faculty of Medicine, established over 30 years ago, is a major health research center in Eastern Turkey, utilizing an integrated education system and a university hospital with 1100 beds.

International Students

Fırat University actively welcomes international students and provides support services through its International Student Office. While many programs are taught in Turkish, some programs, particularly in Medical and Dental Schools, offer courses in English. For programs taught in Turkish, international students are required to demonstrate C1 level Turkish proficiency, with preparatory Turkish language courses available through the University TÖMER Directorate. The university does not accept international student transfers from other universities.

The city offers a blend of historical sites, such as the ancient town of Harput, and natural beauty, including Hazar Lake and surrounding mountain landscapes. While the university does not have its own dormitories, it provides diverse on and off-campus housing options, including a guesthouse for short stays. The Archaeology Museum of Elazığ is also located on the Fırat University campus.

The Career Planning Application and Research Center offers career counseling services, including job and career consultants in cooperation with İŞKUR, accessible via the Talent Gate platform. The university also participates in the "Industry on Campus" program, which connects students with industry professionals and provides up-to-date information and practical experience. According to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute, the Department of Labor Economics and Industrial Relations reported that 73.1% of its graduates were employed in 2022-2023.
