About University of Zielona Góra
The University of Zielona Góra (UZ) is a modern public academic institution in Zielona Góra, Poland, established in 2001 through the merger of the city's Pedagogical University and Technical University. It is the largest university in western Poland, offering a diverse range of programs across various disciplines to over 9,000 students.
The University of Zielona Góra comprises seven faculties and 29 institutes, offering over 80 fields of study in both Polish and English. These cover a broad spectrum of disciplines including humanities, social sciences, economics, natural sciences, medicine and health, technical and exact sciences, and arts. UZ is authorized to confer doctoral and postdoctoral degrees in 23 disciplines, with notable strengths in areas such as Automation, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Economics, Finance, Linguistics, and Astronomy, many of which have received high ratings in national evaluations. The university emphasizes practical skills and innovation, preparing students for global job markets.
The university actively promotes internationalization, offering a variety of English-taught programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels, including Astronomy, Finance and Accounting, Political Science, and the new "Law & Sustainability" program. The Welcome Center provides support services to international students, assisting with formalities, cultural integration, and organizing cultural activities. Additionally, the university offers Polish language courses for foreigners and various scholarship opportunities for international students.
The University of Zielona Góra features two main campuses, "A" on Podgórna street and "B" on Wojska Polskiego street, which function as small university towns complete with academic buildings and dormitories. These campuses are well-connected by the city's public transportation. Zielona Góra itself is known as a peaceful city with a relaxed atmosphere, famous for its winemaking traditions and annual wine festival, offering a lower cost of living compared to larger Polish cities. The city boasts numerous parks, forests, and a well-developed sports infrastructure, including public facilities like gyms, pools, and courts.
The University of Zielona Góra's programs are designed to equip students with practical skills for the global job market. The Career Office assists students with career planning, offering advice on CV preparation, job interview techniques, and providing information on job offers and the labor market. While graduates from larger cities might earn more in absolute terms, UZ graduates in fields like Computer Science tend to earn relatively well compared to other residents in the local labor market. The university also fosters industry connections through initiatives like the Center for Enterprise and Technology Transfer and the Lubuski Science and Technology Park, bridging academia with regional businesses.
