About Leiden University College The Hague

Leiden University College The Hague (LUC) is the international honors college of Leiden University, the oldest university in the Netherlands, established in 1575. LUC offers a selective, English-taught Liberal Arts and Sciences program focusing on global challenges. Located in the vibrant city of The Hague, LUC provides an unparalleled academic experience within a close-knit, residential community of approximately 600 students from over 50 nationalities.

Academics

LUC offers a three-year Bachelor's (Honours) program in Liberal Arts and Sciences: Global Challenges, leading to either a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree. The curriculum emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach to global challenges such as peace and justice, sustainability, prosperity, and diversity. After a foundational first year, students specialize in one of six majors, including Culture, History, Society (BA), International Justice (BA), World Politics (BA), Earth, Energy and Sustainability (BSc), Global Public Health (BSc), and Governance, Economics and Development (BSc). LUC has consistently been ranked as the highest-rated university college in the Netherlands by Keuzegids.

International Students

The university provides comprehensive support services, including academic advisors who assist with the transition to university life and study planning. Personal support is also available through Student Life Counselors, who are trained psychologists, and Residential Assistants who organize floor events. All programs at LUC are taught entirely in English, and first and second-year students are guaranteed housing in individual studios with private kitchenettes.

LUC's modern building is conveniently located next to The Hague Central Station, offering easy access to the city. The Hague, known as the "International City of Peace and Justice," provides a unique backdrop for studying global challenges, with numerous international organizations and NGOs offering potential field trips and internship opportunities. Students have access to Leiden University's extensive facilities, including its 4-million-volume library, just a 10-minute train ride away. The campus itself features classrooms, a library, study areas, a student-run bar called "Coasters," and social spaces like a grand café and a roof terrace.
