About Shizuoka University

Shizuoka University, a prominent national public university established in 1949, is located in Shizuoka City and Hamamatsu City, Japan. With a mission to foster innovation and nurture global citizens, the university emphasizes excellent education, creative research, and societal contribution. It consistently ranks among the top Japanese universities, welcoming around 9,000 students across undergraduate and graduate levels.

Academics

Shizuoka University is renowned for its strengths in engineering, particularly electronic engineering, computer science, and applied chemistry, as well as in agriculture, informatics, and environmental sciences. The university promotes interdisciplinary and problem-based learning, encouraging cross-faculty collaboration and innovation. It is home to the Hamamatsu School of Photonics and is internationally recognized for research in robotics and cutting-edge materials. The university offers six faculties: Humanities and Social Sciences, Education, Informatics, Science, Engineering, and Agriculture, spread across its two main campuses.

International Students

Shizuoka University places a strong emphasis on diversity and internationalization, currently hosting approximately 450 international students. The university provides dedicated support services, including an Organization for International Collaboration that offers Japanese language courses, a tutor system for academic and daily life guidance, and counseling services. English-taught programs are available, notably through the Asia Bridge Program (ABP) for both undergraduate and master's degrees in fields like informatics, science, engineering, and agriculture. The ABP also offers exemptions from examination, enrollment, and first-year tuition fees for eligible students from specific Asian countries.

Campus & Location

Shizuoka University operates two main campuses: one in Shizuoka City and the other in Hamamatsu City. The Shizuoka campus, overlooking Shizuoka City and Suruga Bay, is about 25 minutes from Shizuoka Station by bus and offers views of Mount Fuji. The Hamamatsu campus, located in a major center of manufacturing technology, is approximately 15 minutes from Hamamatsu Station by bus and features state-of-the-art laboratories and the "S-Port" student support center. Both campuses provide on-campus and nearby student housing options, modern sports facilities, and host cultural festivals.

Career Outcomes

Shizuoka University offers comprehensive career support for its students, including personal career consultations, employment guidance, and joint company information sessions. The university has strong industry connections, evidenced by numerous companies hosting internships and employing graduates. Notable employers of Shizuoka University international graduates in Japan include major companies like Suzuki, Yamaha Motors, Fujitsu, and Mitsubishi Motor. The university also collaborates with external organizations like the Shizuoka International Business Association (SIBA) and the Shizuoka Association for International Relations (SIR) to provide internships, job matching, and employment support for international students.
