About Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology
The Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) officially merged with IT Sligo and Letterkenny IT in April 2022 to form Atlantic Technological University (ATU), one of Ireland's largest multi-campus universities. ATU Galway-Mayo, as it is now known, builds on GMIT's legacy of providing practical, career-focused education with a strong emphasis on research and innovation. It offers a vibrant and inclusive learning environment across its campuses in the picturesque west of Ireland.
ATU Galway-Mayo offers a diverse portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate programs across four main faculties: Business, Engineering & Computing, Science & Health, and Design, Education & Social Sciences. Notable program strengths include engineering, business, science, creative arts, and tourism and hospitality, with the Galway International Hotel School having a strong international reputation. The university also has specialized research centers focusing on areas like marine and freshwater science, medical device technology, and energy.
ATU Galway-Mayo provides a supportive and inclusive community for international students, with a dedicated International Students Society that facilitates cultural exchange, social activities, and academic support. All undergraduate and postgraduate programs are delivered in English, and the university offers an orientation program to help new international students settle in. With over 1,300 international students from more than 90 countries across ATU, there is a diverse and welcoming atmosphere. The university also offers various scholarships for international students based on academic merit and other criteria.
ATU Galway-Mayo boasts multiple campuses, including the main Galway City campus, Mayo Campus in Castlebar, Letterfrack (National Centre for Excellence in Furniture Design and Technology), and Mountbellew (Agricultural College).
