About Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology

Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT) is Ireland's only institute of art, design, and technology with a specific focus on the creative, cultural, and technological sectors. Established in 1997, IADT has built a strong reputation for fostering innovation and creativity, preparing graduates for dynamic careers in the digital age. With a student body of over 2,500, IADT offers a vibrant and interdisciplinary learning environment.

Academics

IADT comprises two main faculties: the Faculty of Film, Art and Creative Technologies, and the Faculty of Enterprise and Humanities. The institution emphasizes a convergence of arts, technology, and enterprise, with a strong focus on creative arts and media, notably housing the National Film School (NFS). Notable programs include Animation, Film & Television Production, Visual Communications, Applied Psychology, User Experience Design, and Cyberpsychology. Students benefit from learning through practice and experience, with courses delivered by talented staff strong in research and industry practice.

International Students

IADT welcomes international students, with courses delivered entirely in English. The International and Admissions Offices collaborate to support a growing international student population, representing 54 countries and 65 different nationalities as of 2023. While IADT does not offer on-campus accommodation, the Students' Union provides advice on welfare, finances, and education, and facilitates numerous clubs and societies for cultural integration. International students may also be eligible for the Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship.

Campus & Location

IADT's urban campus, spanning 17 acres, is located in Deansgrange, just two kilometers west of Dún Laoghaire. Dún Laoghaire itself is a bustling seaside town south of Dublin, offering a wide range of amenities including gyms, pools, bars, restaurants, coffee shops, cinemas, and parks. The campus features state-of-the-art studios, labs, and production areas, providing practical experience with industry-standard technology. Excellent transportation links connect Dún Laoghaire to the heart of Dublin city and the surrounding countryside.

Career Outcomes

IADT is recognized for producing creative, entrepreneurial, and technologically astute graduates well-prepared for the creative, cultural, and technological industries. The institution maintains strong links and established partnerships with commercial, academic, creative, and cultural sectors. IADT's campus incubation center, Media Cube, supports graduate enterprise development and accommodates start-up businesses in the media and digital media sectors.
