About University of Western Macedonia
The University of Western Macedonia (UoWM) is a dynamic public institution in Northern Greece, established in 2003. It is committed to providing high-quality education and research opportunities across a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs. UoWM aims to be a leading institution in knowledge, research, green innovation, and societal contribution for a sustainable future.
UoWM offers a diverse array of programs across seven schools and 22 departments, including Engineering, Economic Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities, Fine Arts, Agriculture, Science, and Health Sciences. The teaching approach is student-centered, combining strong theoretical foundations with practical experience through laboratory work, field projects, and digital learning. Notable research strengths include energy transition, sustainability, artificial intelligence, data science, and advanced manufacturing. The university actively collaborates with industry and international partners to offer internships and applied projects.
UoWM is globally oriented and provides support services for international students through its International Student Support Unit (ISSU), assisting with enrollment, visa processes, travel to Greece, and residence permits. While most courses are primarily taught in Greek, the university offers a number of courses in English for incoming Erasmus students, and has established two English-taught undergraduate programs: "Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in Economics and Sustainable Development" and "Creative Writing, Arts and Humanities". The university fosters an inclusive academic community and encourages cultural integration through various student clubs and societies covering diverse interests like sports, arts, and culture.
The University of Western Macedonia is a multi-campus university with facilities in five cities across the Western Macedonia region: Kozani (main campus), Florina, Kastoria, Ptolemaida, and Grevena. Kozani boasts a new, modern, European-standard university campus, which serves as the university's headquarters and provides state-of-the-art facilities for engineering departments. The region offers vibrant cultural activities and natural beauty, with minimized road distances due to the Egnatia Motorway, and regular bus services linking university cities with larger Greek cities. Kozani also has frequent flights to Athens, and the university provides free meals and accommodation in student halls in Kozani, Grevena, and Florina.
UoWM's Careers Office provides valuable information and counseling to students and graduates on educational and career options, aiming to connect the academic community with employers. They offer guidance on job vacancies, internships in both public and private sectors, and information on postgraduate programs and scholarships. The university also runs student placement programs to provide training and work experience, fostering strong ties between higher education and industry. Graduates from departments like Management Science and Technology are prepared for roles in production and service management, strategic planning, information systems, and human resource management.
