About University of Hradec Králové
The University of Hradec Králové (UHK), established in 2000 with roots tracing back to 1959, is a dynamic and youthful public university in the Czech Republic. It is a vibrant institution that has grown to educate approximately 6,000 students, both Czech and international, offering high-quality tertiary education across a broad spectrum of fields.
UHK comprises four faculties: the Faculty of Education, Faculty of Informatics and Management, Philosophical Faculty, and Faculty of Science. The university emphasizes an individual approach to students with limited class sizes, focusing on applying knowledge in practice for future careers. Notable English-taught programs include Applied Informatics, Information Management, and Information and Knowledge Management at the Faculty of Informatics and Management. The Philosophical Faculty offers programs in humanities and social sciences, while the Faculty of Education covers teaching, artistic, and linguistic disciplines.
UHK hosts a significant number of international students, with around 50-80 exchange students each semester and 68 full-degree international students. The university provides accommodation in its halls of residence and offers support through the well-established ESN Hradec Králové, which aids in cultural integration and organizes various events. The UHK Point offers advisory services, including psychological and therapeutic support in English, and support for students with specific needs. The International Office also assists with the international agenda, including Erasmus+ and other mobility programs.
The modern UHK campus, "Na Soutoku" (At the Confluence), is conveniently located within walking distance of the Hradec Králové city center, other university buildings, the Educational and Scientific Library, and the old town. The campus features lecture halls, computer classrooms, a university library, an art gallery, snack bars, and relaxation zones. Hradec Králové itself offers a pleasant city life with many cozy restaurants and bars. The university also has two halls of residence, Palach Halls of Residence and Vít Nejedlý Halls of Residence, with a capacity of around 900 beds.
UHK focuses on preparing qualified specialists who succeed in both local and international job markets, with statistics showing a marginal number of unemployed graduates. The UHK Point includes a Career Centre, offering career counseling services to students and graduates for up to two years after completing their studies. The university also provides opportunities for students to gain professional and life experience through study and traineeship mobilities in over 60 countries. UHK is a proud holder of the HR Award certificate, signifying a European standard of care for employees and quality working environment.
